The Tour de France – need we say more? This is one of the greatest sporting spectacles in the world, and it’s right on our doorstep. We look forward to showing you around the Pyrenees for this week in July! We have 2 very different finishes at the start of the Tour which should provide some excellent racing.
If you are flying into Lourdes or Pau then it's an early flight. We will be there to meet you with the Pyrenees Cycling team for the short transfer to Argeles. There will be time to get your bikes set up on arrival and get out for an afternoon ride. Transfers can also be made from Lourdes train station.
A ride over and around the Col du Tourmalet the west to east ascent, a 100km round-trip ride, vehicle support as always will be on hand should there be any mechanical problems or tired legs! Your ride leaders will point out interesting points of view and answer any questions you may have along the ride. You can always add in the Aspin and the Hourquette d'Ancizan. Back in time to see the Tour finish on the TV in the afternoon.
Starting to climb from Luz-St-Sauveur we head up the valley, past the Pic du Bergons, as we ride close to the edge of the Gave de Gavarnie towards the village of Gèdre. This is the easy part! The Cirque de Troumouse is waiting for you. This is a quiet but tough climb, getting you up to above 1900m - a great finish on one of the lesser-known climbs of the Pyrenees. If you are feeling fresh you can always ride up to Luz Ardiden another great Tour stage finish.
This is an out an back ride to the valley of Cauterets to do the Pont de Espagne and Cambasque there will be an opportunity to fit the climb of Hautacam on your return if you want to conquer another classic col of the Tour de France support vehicle will be as always along for your mechanicals or tired legs.
We will ride from the Hotel out to the Col de Spandelles a long climb that drags through a the magnificent valley De Bergons, after we drop down and tackle the north - south ascent of the Soulor and if your still feeling good we can do one more climb of the Couraduque, or descend back to Argeles for a well earned drink.
Today we catch our first glimpse of the Tour, this be to watch the finish in Pau. We ride from the hotel out up the Soulor and the Aubisque and descend in the picturesque city of Pau. We will be able to watch the Tour stage finish. If the weather is good and you're feeling energetic you can even ride back! ;-) Otherwise there will be transport back to the hotel.
