The Tour de France – need we say more? This is one of the greatest sporting spectacles in the world, and it’s right on our doorstep. We look forward to showing you around the Pyrenees for this week in July! We have 2 very different mountain top finishes at the end of the Tour which should provide some excellent racing.
If you are flying into Lourdes or Pau then it's an early flight. We will be there to meet you with the Pyrenees Cycling team for the short transfer to Argeles. There will be time to get your bikes set up on arrival and get out for an afternoon ride. Transfers can also be made from Lourdes train station.
A ride around the Col du Tourmalet the west to east ascent, a 100km round-trip ride, vehicle support as always will be on hand should there be any mechanical problems or tired legs! Your ride leaders will point out interesting points of view and answer any questions you may have along the ride. Back in time to see the Tour finish on the TV in the afternoon.
Starting to climb from Luz-St-Sauveur we head up the valley, past the Pic du Bergons, as we ride close to the edge of the Gave de Gavarnie towards the village of Gèdre. This is the easy part! Once into Gavarnie village, we swing a right and head up the Port de Boucharo, 2230m up to the Spanish border - a total of 32km. On our return, the Cirque de Troumouse is waiting for you for the extra climb of the day. This is a quiet but tough climb, getting you up to above 1900m - a great finish on one of the lesser-known climbs of the Pyrenees.
A ride up to Cauterets and Pont d'Espagne. This was stage of the 2015 Tour through main square in Cauterets. We will be tackling the short but steep climb of Cambasque: Scene of the Lemond - Fignon battle of the 1989 Tour, returning for those that would like to do an extra climb of Luz Ardiden. This has always a favourite of the Tour although sadly won't be featured this year!
Today we catch our first glimpse of the Tour finishing at the mountaintop airport in Peyragudes. An early start for those that want to, we'll be riding out from the hotel via the Tourmalet either the Col d'Aspin or along La Hourqette. This ride has a support vehicle to pick you up or drop you off further towards the Tourmalet if you prefer not to ride the full 135kms - this can be arranged with your guides on the day depending on how you are feeling. If the weather is good and you're feeling energetic you can even ride back! ;-)
One of the biggest days in the Tour this year a finish on Hautacam. A short ride from the hotel we select our spot carefully, to be able to watch the riders toil their way up this iconic climb, to see the finishers
The Col du Solour and Col d'Aubisque these two ledgendary climbs to round off your Tour de France week with us here in the Pyrenees.
